With an ace and a stellar round the rest of the way, John Ryan III grabbed the lead in MA1, but it's slim and there are a number of competitors right on his heels. In FA1, Virginia Polkinghorne kept her play solid and extended her lead to three strokes.

Things were also shuffled in MA1 on Wednesday with 38 players making the jump from the B Pool to the A Pool, led by Wyatt Wagner and Alejandro Saldaña, who find themselves in a tie for ninth place.

Ryan aced the 262-foot, blind 16th at Johnson Park, which has proved to be a straight shootout amongst the MA1 field, to turn in the hot round of 12-under par and jump five spots to the solo lead.

But it's just a one-stroke margin over second place in Mason McLean and Jeff Yanda. Ryan Monn is two strokes back in solo fourth.

In total, 13 players are within five strokes of the lead as action shifts to woods at Fallasburg for the first and only time this week for MA1.

Polkinghorne came out swinging on Wednesday at Rotary Park with an eagle on the fifth and 6-under score through the first seven holes. She ran into trouble near the turn but rallied to keep it relatively clean the rest of the way for 2-under round and a three-stroke lead.

Alex Ulp kept her spot in solo second place with a 1-under round. The hot round, by two strokes, belonged to Therese Cuevas, whose 7-under day lifted her 14 spots into a tie for third with Kylie Kohut, who are both four strokes out the lead.

Colombia's Laura Tatiana Niño Carranza had the second-hottest round of the day at 5-under to climb 11 spots into a tie for sixth. New Zealand's Michaela Kerr followed with a 4-under round and will join Carranza on the chase card in solo fifth, five behind Polkingorne.

Things are shaping up in Grand Rapids but there's still plenty of golf left before PDGA World Champions are crowned on Saturday.
