2024 Amateur Worlds Mixed Doubles Format

Format

Round One:

In round one, we will play a modified best shot. In modified best throw, teams choose the best throw on each shot; however, the same person’s tee shot cannot be used three holes in a row.

Round Two:

In round two, we will play a modified alternate throw. On odd-numbered holes, male/female will tee. On even- numbered holes, male/female will tee. (The tournament director will decide the odd and even tee assignments.) After the tee shot, the other partner throws the second shot, and players alternate throughout the hole until it is completed.

Read about these two formats under B.05B and B.05F.

Format FAQ’s

Modified Best Shot:

Can my partner and I play from different lies?
No, the team must choose one lie, and both throw from that one lie.

How are we going to remember whose tee shot we used?
We have a way to track this, which we will discuss at the players' meeting.

How do we choose what is the best shot?
The choice of which lie to use is solely up to the two players.

Modified Alternate Shot:

If a player throws out of bounds, who throws next?
Players will physically alternate throughout the hole and then total their score, with penalties, at the end of the hole. So, If John is playing with Sally and John throws his tee shot OB, even though the team is on the third shot, Sally would still throw next.

If player #1 holes out on an even-numbered hole, then player #1 still tees on the next hole even though that is back- to-back throws.
Yes. The alternating resets at the start of each hole to the assigned person, regardless of who holed out the hole before.

Playoffs

If we have a playoff, it will start on hole 1 on the same course and continue the modified alternate shot format with the same tee assignments as the second round.
