Scorecards are in. Paige Pierce has run off with another FPO win continuing her undefeated start to 2017. Winning his fifth MPO title at the Memorial Championship Presented by Discraft, beating Simon Lizotte by one stroke, is none other than Paul McBeth. Congratulations to both winners on their impressive play this week!
It’s official, Pierce is the 2017 FPO player to beat. Having won the Aussie Open by a crushing 20 stroke margin, the Gentlemen’s Club Challenge by three, and today by a comfortable 13 strokes, Pierce continues her undefeated streak in 2017. Paige now holds five victories at the Memorial Championship Presented by Discraft, one win from Juliana Korver’s record six Memorial Championship wins.

Simon Lizotte has made it clear that, coming off of knee surgery, he was keeping his expectations low early in the season.
So he’s been just as surprised as anyone by his Memorial Championship performance, which finds him tied for first place heading into today’s final round at Fountain Hills Park.

Just like in round two, one of Paige Pierce’s competitors got close to taking a share of her lead yesterday during round three of the Memorial Championship. But as she has all tournament, she quickly closed the door on that idea at Vista del Camino Park, inflating her five stroke lead to six after a 1-over par 61 hot round to move her to a 3-under par 168 total.

Paul McBeth set out for what he called a leisurely stroll yesterday during round two of the Memorial Championship. When he was finished, he found himself almost at the top of the leaderboard.
The defending Memorial Champion’s 11-under par 44 counted as the day’s hot round and sent him flying up the standings. He started the day in 19th place and ended it in second, his 18-under par 93 total putting him on the lead card for today’s third round.

A warm and breezy afternoon round two at the Memorial Championship stood in stark contrast to the early, chilly morning round one experienced by the Open Women’s field, but the final results were similar. Paige Pierce remains in the lead after maintaining the five stroke advantage she enjoyed heading into the round, her 2-under par 54 at Fiesta Lakes bringing her to a 5-under par 107 total.

Unlike other divisions in the sport of disc golf, the women’s division (FPO) has a much smaller universe. The number of faces the players see year after year never seems to grow or shrink. For 2017, change in the air. With the outcry for equality, and disc golf itself growing faster than ever before, it is a great time to play disc golf as a woman.
