Saturday was the day for professionals to gather and showcase their abilities in a series of field events assembled by the PDGA. These events have been constructed to determine the World Champions in each respective discipline. They were all set to maximize difficulty and provide competitors with a true test to their skill.
The 2013 PDGA Professional Disc Golf World Championships returns to Crown Point, Ind. from August 3-10 for an event filled with excitement and surprise. This event will be a sight to see with its highly competitive player base of 304 players and a total purse of over $75,000 up for grabs. These players come from all over the world to represent their states and their countries in the race for the coveted World Champion title.
The deadline for registering for the 2013 PDGA Professional Disc Golf World Championships in Crown Point, Indiana from August 3-10 has been extended to Sunday, July 28th. As of the morning of July 25th, the following spots are still available:
At the moment when the final card stepped up to their finishing hole emotions began to surge. Their hearts pounding with nervous excitement. Adrenaline surging through their bodies. The entire week has led up to this hole. Players have played seven full rounds of disc golf in scorching heat combined with a steady wind whipping the courses. Every player experienced the difficulty of the courses on display, and every player battled the Kansas temperatures in July. Only a select few have made it this far.
The week has been a scorcher for every competitor present at the 2013 PDGA Amateur and Junior World Championships and most competitors have battled the heat through Friday. This tournament is a test of both mental and physical endurance from beginning to end. With the title of World Champion on the line pressure of competition adds a new intensity to every round. The Fairways tighten. The air thickens. Decision making in every situation, on every shot becomes the most important matter in their lives. With this immense weight of the moment on their shoulders some crumble, but some prevail above all.
It was movement day at the 2013 PDGA Amateur and Junior World Championships in Emporia, KS. After the second day shuffle players have begun to get everything rolling. On this day in particular movement was not that common, as the leaders in most divisions held onto and extended their leads.
With the scorching first day over and the opening rounds in the books players have begun to feel the heat of competition. The first day jitters have settled and players are in full throttle for the remainder of the 2013 PDGA Amateur and Junior World Championships.
The day opened with leaders established from first day action but these players were here to make some movement. In fact, these rounds on Wednesday were extremely important because the mid tournament shuffle immediately followed day two’s action.
The shuffle of the Advanced Amateur division (Pools A, B & C) is completed and the tee times for Thursday 7/11 are posted for the B and C Pools on the Emporia Municipal course. Players in the MA1 division need to check the scores page to determine their new pool.
After a night of refreshment and enjoyment downtown in Emporia, KS players woke up bright and early to begin their first day of competition. With the sunrise came predictions of a day with strong winds and a temperature in the triple digits. This created a vicious environment for multiple rounds of tournament play. By the time the sun hit its apex in the sky thermometers read 105 degrees with a heat index of 111 for the 2013 Amateur and Junior World Championships.
Ten-year old Conall Stillwagon #44301 from The Woodlands, Texas hits an ace on the treacherous #18 peninsula hole at the Emporia Country Club this morning for the first ace at the 2013 PDGA Amateur & Junior World Championships. A $300 Ace Pot will be divided by the acing Juniors.
As the doors opened last night to players entering the historic Emporia Granada Theatre in Emporia, KS they were presented with beautiful decor that welcomed them with early 1900s architecture. Its walls were decorated with ornate finishing and dazzeling chandeliers suspended from the ceiling. It held a packed seating area and a mezzanine that could fit the necessary seating capacity to handle every participant, staff member, and family member. Banners and tables filled the interior welcoming players to the 2013 PDGA Amateur and Junior World Championship players meeting.
Day two of the 2013 PDGA Amateur and Junior World Championships led players into an all day celebration of the sport we all love so much. Yesterday was the day for players to test every aspect of their skills in mini-games that dominated the athletic field of Emporia State University. On the field events day we find out who is the best putter, has the longest drive, and who has the best all around skilled shot selection.
The 2013 PDGA Amateur and Junior World Championships in Emporia, Kansas kicked off today with a bang as the Mixed Doubles and Junior Divisional Doubles competition spent a day of fun on the Jones West course. With claim to the first World Championship titles of 2013 on the line competition was stout, battles were fought, and victors were crowned. In the end three teams left saying they were the best in the world.
Tomorrow, Friday June 28th is the last day of registration for the 2013 PDGA Amateur and Junior World Championships including ALL ancillary events. There will be NO walk-up registration for ANY event. Tomorrow is also the last day for withdrawals to receive a full refund (minus the $10 handling fee.) Players withdrawing after tomorrow, Friday 6/28, will receive a player’s package in the mail sometime after AM Worlds is concluded.
The Invite list for the 2013 PDGA Pro World Disc Golf Championships in Crown Point, Indiana is posted on the PDGA Worlds page. Players earning invites in multiple divisions are marked as such. Invite packets will be emailed to invitees on April 5th. Invite packets will be sent via USPS only to those invitees without an email address on record. During the first tier of registration starting on April 19th, invitees may only register for a division they were invited for.
The invite list for the 2013 PDGA Amateur Disc Golf World Championships in Emporia, KS has been updated. It now lists each division a member is invited for. Invitees may register ONLY for their invited division(s) during the first tier of registration which opens on Friday March 29th. Invited members wishing to register for a division they were not invited for, must wait for the second tier of registration to open on May 3rd (if room.) Members who did not earn an invite must wait until the third tier of registration opens on May 31 (if room.)

2013 European Open
Tournament Director Jussi Meresma will once again host the European Open in beautiful Nokia, Finland. This European Major event is held every other year alternating with the European Championship. The Open, as defined by its name, is open to all qualified international competitors, while the Championship is limited to only players from Europe.
