Friday, June 23, 2023 - 18:48

Silva Saarinen leads the Krokhol Open after the first round.

FPO

Top players told us in Thursday's press conference that the level of the FPO field is rising and there are more and more players able to win a tournament.

And on this occasion, it has been the Finnish Silva Saarinen, who is steadily improving her game this season, off to a great 3-under round to lead by three strokes at the PDGA Euro Tour #3 — Krokhol Open.

Jenni Karppinen is three strokes back of the lead.

Once again, the three remaining spots on the lead card will be filled with tied players, in this case Sofie Björlycke (Sweden), who is already a staple in top positions, Jenni Karppinen (Finland); and winner of the Konopiste a week ago, Rachel Turton (UK).

The course looks amazing with the great work of Krokhol Disc Golf Club. The gallery continued to grow even on this first day of competition, the weather is perfect, and it looks like we are going to have an exciting weekend of top-level disc golf where anyone can triumph.

Elias Lukkonen set the early pace.

MPO

Fourth placer Øyvind Jarnes (Norway) told us in the interview that the gallery following the lead card was the biggest one that he had ever seen in his country: and it’s still Friday.

At 4 p.m. in the afternoon, with clear skies and high temperatures, the last MPO card started from the spectacular covered tee of hole 1 with maximum expectation.

On a nice but demanding course (the par for the course gave a rating of 1011, and none of the 120 players managed a bogey-free round), the scores started to spread apart, especially as they entered the wooded holes.

Bradley Williams joined the EuroTour this weekend.

The first notable score was achieved by Elias Lukkonen (Finland), who is achieving brilliant rounds in all the PDGA Euro Tour tournaments but who is having a particularly hard time in the first round; This was not the case this weekend. Lukkonen set the early pace with a 7-under, 1060-rated round.

The feature card did not disappoint, with Americans Paul McBeth and Bradley Williams tying for the lead with the young Nordic star.

The Norwegian Øyvind Jarnes stayed just three shots behind the leaders and will complete the lead card.
