Storms Postpone Idlewild Round One Finish To Saturday

If you haven't heard yet, after heavy storms moving in this afternoon the Idlewild Open has been delayed. The FPO division was able to finish, but MPO was unable to complete the first round. About a quarter of the field did finish play, though, so we can compare those scores to how the pros played last year. But before we dive into today's action, a couple quick numbers from 2017: The hot round of the week was 8-under par, thrown only by Chris Dickerson in the final round. James Conrad won the event at a total of 13-under par. In a world of perfect rounds and back-to-back 16-under par rounds, finishing first at only 13-down seems almost out of place.
The hottest round at the end of Friday was from Tyler Horne at 6-under par after 18 holes. Right behind him at 5-under par through 17 is Jake Hebenheimer. Congrats to both of these guys for besting and matching Nate Perkins' round one hot score last year. Next on the leaderboard is Kevin Jones, who is tied for second at 5-under -- in only seven holes. Moving further down the standings it’s hard to say there’s a round with more potential than Jones' right now. So far he’s 100 percent in scrambling and circle 1 putts. If he can keep those numbers there, he’ll have a great chance at the top spot.

Pierce Holds A Tenuous One-Shot Lead

On Friday, the first day of the Idlewild Open, the fate of the FPO field was mostly at the mercy of the weather. After a rain delay and less than ideal conditions, it was really only Paige Pierce and Sarah Hokom that were able to match their performances from last year. While you’re following along, just remember that Idlewild is far from easy to score on. Pierce won the FPO last year with a 15-over par total, and then she shot the hot round of the week at 3-over. Hokom clinched second place in 2017, nine throws behind Pierce at 24-over. After round one in 2018, Pierce is in first place at 3-over, Hokom is in second place at 4-over, and third place belongs to a tie between Rebecca Cox and Mandy Sharp at 9-over par.
