Redalen Rips | Three-Way Tie in FPO

2023 DGPT - Ledgestone Open Round 2 Recap

Saturday, August 5, 2023 - 08:25

Cole Redalen was cool, calm, collected, and shredding on Friday at the 2023 DGPT — Discraft Ledgestone Open.

After starting one over par through the first four holes, Redalen took off in a major way, collecting birdies on 10 holes at the daunting Northwood Black. His 9-under round tied the course record and put him atop the leaderboard at the midway point of the second Disc Golf Pro Tour Elite+ stop of the year.

Redalan was dialed in off the tee after his only bogey of the day, hitting 86% of the fairways and scrambling for birdie in one miss. He leads the tournament in strokes gained tee-to-green by 1.5 strokes, according to UDisc, as well as Circle 1 and Circle 2 in regulation.

The 9-under was three better than second-best on round Friday in the MPO field’s first of two trips through Northwood. A handful of players, including Calvin Heimburg and Ezra Robinson who will keep their spots on the lead card, finished 6-under. That included Simon Lizotte, who rounds out the top 4 for Moving Day on Saturday. Heimburg, who now co-owns the course record at Northwood Black, and Robinson are one stroke back.

Casey White dropped a 6-under as well to jump 11 spots into a tie for seventh. Others at 6-under include Tony Ferro (16) and Kevin Jones (T17).

Earlier in the day at Sunset Hills, Ohn Scoggins and Ella Hansen moved into a three-way tie with day one leader Missy Gannon.

In typical fashion, Scoggins made her mark on the green, connecting on 4-of-6 attempts from Circle 2 and two more 66-foot hits in stellar day putting. In total, Scoggins his 443 feet of puts in her 8-under round to jump six spots. That hot round was matched by Holyn Handley, who rose 18 spots into a tie for fifth, three strokes off the lead.

Hansen followed with a 6-under par and Gannon went 5-under after a strong start.

Also coming out the gate hot was Sarah Hokom, who was 5-under through the first six holes. After her only bogey on 12, Hokom tacked on three more birdies down the stretch, highlighted by two makes from Circle 2, for a 7-under round to jump to the lead card, just one stroke off of the three-way tie at the top.

Both fields will return to Friday’s courses for another loop ahead of the cut for Championship Sunday and the race to the Ledgestone Open title is definitely on.
