Corbin Milchesky leads the 210-player MA1 field after two rounds at the 2023 NADGT National Championship.

The National Amateur Disc Golf Tour has once again returned to Austin, Texas for the 2023 NADGT National Championships presented by Lone Star Disc.

After competing in qualifying tournaments all over the country, some of the best amateurs in the sport — all 981 in the field — will battle it out to see who will come out on top and potentially set their sights on making the transition to a touring professional.

This PDGA A-Tier will feature 10 different courses with each division competing on two different courses throughout the tournament. Austin came in at No. 8 in UDisc’s Top 10 Disc Golf Cities in the U.S.A. and provides enough high-quality courses for the NADGT to choose courses that will challenge each division and highlight the strongest players in each field.

For example, the FA1 and MA1 fields will play both Circle C Metropolitan Park and Roy G. Guerrero Park. While previous years have featured FPO and MPO divisions, this year will have FA1 and MA1 divisions occupying the same level of competition within the tournament.

MA1, MA2, and MA3 will each have two separate pools with a shuffle based on total score after Friday’s round. Unlike last year, which saw the top four players in each field play a final front 9 to decide the winner, all divisions in the 2023 NADGT National Championships will play all four rounds with no cuts.

The final rounds for MA1 and FA1 will air live on the Disc Golf Network on Saturday.

The NADGT has been the launching point for several players fans can now see on the Disc Golf Pro Tour.

It came down to the wire, and then some, in 2022.

After trading off the lead with Cadence Burge throughout the tournament in the FPO field, Emily Yale led by three strokes going into the final front 9 of the 2022 NADGT National Championships. Yale kept the lead up until Hole 9 where she took multiple attempts to stick the island green. Yale took a quadruple bogey and lost three strokes to Burge, forcing a playoff. The two continued to match strokes for multiple holes until the playoff was finally decided on Hole 5 where Burge took the win.

On the MPO side, Zachary Nash shot the hot round in the semifinals to start the final front 9 with a four-stroke lead. Xaelen Nash, who was tied for second, made a commendable effort on the final front 9 as he shot 7-under in an attempt to close the gap. Zachary never took his foot off the gas and even went for one last birdie on the difficult island green of Hole 9, despite having a six-stroke lead. Ultimately, Zachary shot 9-under with seven birdies and an eagle to win the 2022 NADGT National Championship by six strokes.

With temperatures in the 60s and 70s, it’s looking like sunny skies as different divisions and storylines culminate in the 2023 NADGT National Championships.
