Missy Gannon and Cole Redalen both head into Championship Sunday at the 2023 DGPT — Discraft Ledgestone Open with four-stroke leads.

But a slugfest and a shootout are real possibilities on Sunday in central Illinois.

Both leaders kept their spot atop the leaderboard after a soggy Saturday by grinding through moving day. The FPO field battled rain and wind through part of their round at Sunset Hills, and the MPO field felt the residual effects in the mud and trees at Northwood Black.

For Sunday, Gannon will take her lead back to Northwood Black, the tough, anything-can-happen track where she was crowned the Ledgestone champion a year ago. Later in the day, Redalen — looking for his first career win above a B-Tier — will look to close things out at Lake Eureka, which was blistered by the field in Thursday’s opening round.

No lead is safe on Sunday.

“I’m going to go in that round thinking that I have no strokes and it’s all even,” Gannon said. “Just try not to think about protecting my score at all.

“I still need to attack Northwood the way that I practiced and the way that I did in the first round.”

Gannon started with a statement putt on hole 1 on Saturday, a nervy, downhill, edge-of-circle connect. She stalled slightly after that before rallying with four birdies in a six-hole stretch as the rain and swirling winds dampened Sunset Hills. She finished tied with the hot round of 5-under, which was matched by Macie Velediaz, who will join the lead card on Sunday.

Ohn Scoggins and Ella Hansen went 1-under and are four strokes back at 8-under. Velediaz, Holyn Handley and Sarah Hokom sit a 7-under par.

Gannon and Hansen were the only two players under par on Thursday at Northwood, shooting two and one-under, respectively.

The MPO field saw a bit more of a shakeup near the top, just not at the leader position.

Redalen built his lead to as many as five stokes during the long round that went into the Saturday dusk but back-to-back bogies down the stretch dropped that lead to four.

He’s got a new set of cardmates joining him under the water tower.

Casey White and Ricky Wysocki jumped five spots each with 5-under rounds and are two of five players four strokes back. Gregg Barsby matched the hot round of 5-under to rise 30 spots into the top 20.

Andrew Marwede (-4 on Saturday) will round out the lead card.

Calvin Heimburg and Ezra Robinson, both of which shot even, drop the chase card at 18-under. Simon Lizotte and James Proctor round out the second card.
