Thank you for your interest in providing round coverage of the 2020 PDGA Professional Disc Golf World Championships from June 16-20 in Ogden, Utah! Media has been a significant factor in driving disc golf’s continued growth, and we are grateful for your work ethic and dedication to the sport.
For the purpose of this application, post-produced round coverage is defined as a video that includes every throw of a specific card, but that has been edited into a condensed form that removes downtime. It may include player introductions, player interviews, slow-motion replays, and other flourishes that communicate the competition. Live round coverage is defined as a streaming internet broadcast that covers a full round in real-time or bounces around to cards of significance as they happen.
Please see the following requirements to apply for exclusive post-produced round coverage rights for the MPO Lead, FPO Lead, and MPO Chase cards for all five rounds of competition at Pro Worlds, or to apply for exclusive live coverage rights. The application, in which you will select which card(s) you would like to film and provide additional details, follows. Certain cards include a per-round minimum fee requirement.
This application will be kept confidential, only to be shared among PDGA staff and the tournament director of the PDGA Professional Disc Golf World Championships. Applications will be evaluated and cards will be assigned based on a combination of video producer quality and track record, audience reach, additional fees or in-kind contributions, sponsor packages, and other factors.
Applications will be accepted until 5 p.m. EST on Friday, March 6, 2020. Card assignments will be made by Friday, March 20, 2020.
Administrative Requirements
- Post-production videos must be released the day following the round and be available to PDGA members on a free platform.
- Live videos must be available on to PDGA members on a free platform. Any live video producers wishing to release a condensed version of their coverage must also apply for post-production video rights.
- Video producers agree to seek sponsorship from the tournament’s presenting sponsor first before extending the opportunity to other companies.
- Sponsorship from other companies is encouraged, but may not be included at a greater volume than that of the tournament's presenting sponsor unless the presenting sponsor waives their right of first refusal.
- In exchange for being granted the right to film events, all video production teams on site grant rights to the PDGA for use of video on social media or in additional non-commercial, promotional productions.
- Video producers will be required to share all requested footage from each round before departing tournament central each day.
Technical Requirements
Minimum Quality Standards
At a minimum, round coverage must include:
- Two cameras
- Flyover hole previews (where FAA regulations allow)
- 1080p resolution
- Professional scoring and leaderboard graphics
- Live video coverage must include a PDGA logo on screen at all times.
Introduction
The following information should be displayed in some way during the introduction for both post-production and live-streaming video and must also be announced by commentators:
- Event name, as listed on the PDGA.com event page*
- PDGA Pro Worlds logo*
- Course name*
- Player names*
- Event presenting sponsor name and/or logo*
Leaderboard
A leaderboard must be included at the completion of each round of 18 holes, at a minimum. The PDGA Pro Worlds logo must be on the leaderboard each time it is shown.
Video Thumbnail
A PDGA logo must appear on all round coverage video thumbnails at a minimum size of 178 x 45 pixels (horizontal) or 75 x 100 pixels (square).
PDGA and Presenting Sponsor Promotional Materials
All post-production video producers granted filming rights to are required to include the following:
- Negotiated advertising with tournament’s presenting sponsor, unless right of first refusal is waived
- One 15-second PDGA commercial (or agreed upon equivalent) in the back nine video any time before players tee off on hole 18
All live video producers granted filming rights to are required to include the following:
- Negotiated advertising with tournament's presenting sponsor, unless right of first refusal is waived
- One 15-second PDGA commercial and one PDGA pop-up advertisement per hour of streaming coverage
Minimum Fee Requirements
Rights to the following cards will be awarded based on the following minimum fees:
- MPO Lead: $500 per round
- MPO Chase: $100 per round
Paid fees will be divided between the tournament director and PDGA, with the tournament director receiving 85% of fees to help contribute toward running the event. Producers are encouraged to include other benefits, either in-kind or financial, in addition to the minimum fees to enhance their applications.
