A Crowning Moment
2013 Pro Worlds Named Event of the Year
The 2013 PDGA Professional Disc Golf World Championships returned to Crown Point, IN. this year from August 3-10 for an event filled with excitement and surprise. This event was a sight to see with its highly competitive player base of 304 players and a total purse of over $75,000 up for grabs. The players came from all over the world to represent their states and their countries in the race for the coveted World Champion title. After an incredible week, Paul McBeth and Paige Pierce took home the trophy and earned the title of World Champion. Lemon Lake Park and Hidden Lake Park played wonderful hosts to this amazing event. The weather in Northern Indiana could not have been better.
The Lake County Parks, Ross Township Parks, the South Shore Sports Authority, the South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority, Lemon Lake Flight Center, the Red Roc Disc Golf Club, the PDGA, and countless dedicated volunteers and sponsors who were all dedicated to the promotion and support of disc golf of this exciting event, were are all working to provide YOU with the best WORLDS experience, both on and off the courses.
During the South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority’s annual holiday reception on Wednesday, Dec. 4, members of the hospitality and tourism industry gathered to recognize this year’s leading professionals, attractions, and events.
Award recipients were announced for the Chester F. Dobis Public Service in Hospitality Award, Elected Official of the Year, Most Innovative Attraction, Best New Attraction, Bring It Home Hero and Event of the Year.
The 2013 PDGA Professional Disc Golf World Championship was named the Event of the Year by the South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority. The announcement was made at the reception at the SSCVA welcome center.
A media release from the South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority read: “Award recipients also include…the Professional Disc Golf Association PDGA Professional World Championships for the 2013 Event of the Year.” To accept the award on behalf of the event was Sandy Basala, Superintendent of Visitor Services for Lake County Parks.
The PDGA would like to say that we are honored, and we are, but truly, this award belongs to our members. For those of you who attended the Worlds this year with eager minds, able bodies, and skilled efforts, we want to thank you. Thank you for your stewardship, your attention to etiquette, and your overall positive attitude. You are the superstars of our sport.
