Star-Studded MPO Final Day Lead Card On-Tap

2024 Jonesboro Open - Day 2 MPO Recap

Sunday, April 14, 2024 - 08:40

The World Champ, the defending Jonesboro champ and Player of the Year, the hottest player on tour, and Simon Lizotte.

Things are tight at the top of the MPO leaderboard in Jonesboro, AR, and after another windy lap around Disc Side of Heaven, the MPO field will showcase a final day lead card that feels like it was meant to be.

Isaac Robinson

There was no bigger mover on moving day than reigning PDGA World Champ Isaac Robinson, who finished 2nd in Jonesboro last year after bagging his maiden major title at Champions Cup.

Holding steady through the course’s challenging front nine, Robinson caught fire late, going 7-under on the back nine including six in a row to finish. He matched the hot round of the tournament at 11-under to jump 12 places into a first-place tie with Anthony Barela.

Anthony Barela

Meanwhile, the hottest player on the planet, Anthony Barela, was having an up and down round.

Struggling to find the fairway consistently (13/19 Fairways hit according to PDGA Live Stats), Barela found himself only 3-down after 13 holes, having fallen to 5th place.

But AB showed the mental toughness that has been characteristic of his game and led to his early lead in the season DGPT Tour Standings.

He scrambled from out of position at several key points in the round, including a highlight reel putt on hole 14 from the rough that sparked a run of 4/5 birdies to finish the round and work himself back into a share of the lead.

Calvin Heimburg

Calvin Heimburg, the two-time defending champ in Jonesboro and reigning PDGA Player of the Year, showcased two of his greatest strengths: consistency and that low-flying lazer beam of a backhand that has a unique ability to fly below the turbulence on a windy day.

Heimburg, who registered 12 podium finishes at Elite and Major Events on his way to the 2023 Player of the Year Award, nearly matched his opening round with a 1054-rated 8-under.

With his track record and consistency, it is hard to imagine that regardless of who else will be in contention down the stretch on Sunday, Heimburg will be there, too.

Simon Lizotte

Simon Lizotte will be looking to grab his first Elite Series win of the season as he represents the 3-way tie for 4th place (along with Ben Callaway and Albert Tamm) on Sunday’s lead card.

The ever-popular Lizotte has become one of the winningest players on tour with six titles over the past two seasons. His best result in Jonesboro came in 2022 with a 6th place finish that included a 1093-rated Round 2 that was the highest-rated round shot on tour that year (via StatMando).

MPO Lead Card Tees off Sunday at 3:55 C.T. with Live coverage only on the Disc Golf Network.
