Titles were defended and new PDGA Major champions were crowned this weekend at the 2022 PDGA Tim Selinske U.S. Masters Championships.

In a majority of the 19-division event, which was fueled by Visit Quad Cities and the passionate QC crew along with Iron Lion Disc Golf, the battles came down to the end.

From Brad Schick’s comeback win to defend his title in MP40 to Sylvia Voakes winning her seventh Master PDGA Major (and making more money than her husband and MP70 champion, Dr. Rick Voakes), it was an exciting week on the Mississippi River to compete, reunite and remember Tim Selinske.

Schick Finishes Strong

Brad Schick didn’t have the lead until the back nine of the final round on Sunday as lingering rain showers turned Camden 2 into even more of a mental battle.

His hot round of 47, matched by Tyler Horne in his rise to second place, gave the defending champion a three-stroke win.

Alan Wagner, continuing a solid season, finished third.

That’s Two

Ohn Scoggins put the pedal down in the final round and rolled to a comfortable win for her second PDGA Major title of the season, to go along with a stellar record on the Elite Series.

Scoggins finished with a 4-under 52 in the rain on Sunday for a 14-under total on the weekend.

Sarah Hokom finished second and Jennifer Allen, battling an injury, finished on the podium.

Schultz Adds Another

Barry Schultz’s Major collection grew to 16 this weekend after downright dominant play through four rounds.

Schultz had the second-hottest round of the weekend of any division with a 45 (1063 rated) at Camden 2 (Dutch Napier, 44) and kept it rolling from there with the hot round in MP50 in the final three rounds for what ended up being a 16-stroke win.

Jay Yeti Reading, who went one stroke off Schultz’s pace in round two and round three, finished second and Robert Ryan finished third.

Korver Wins a Selinske

Juliana Korver, Scoggins, Hokom and Allen, hit the road moments after collecting her trophy to head to Vermont for the DGPT – Green Mountain Championships.

But before she left, she reminisced on the event.

“It’s special because of all of you – so many of us that have been doing this for a long time,” she said. “The young players are spreading like wildfire, but we’ve still got it.”

Korver had this win, her eighth Major, locked in early with a big lead from the start.

Barrett White and Nova Politte finished in a tie for second.

Pro Roundup

  • Syvia Voakes was elated that, for one of the few times in her long disc golf career, she competed with women her own age. She also took home $1,300 for winning the FP70 division and, for the first time, her payday was larger than what her husband, MP70 champion Dr. Rick Voakes, won.
  • In MP55, Pete Caldwell averaged well above his rating, capped with a 999-rated final round for a four-stroke win over Doug Williams and Thomas Hausmann.
  • Oklahoma’s Eric Rainey dropped a 1010-rated third round and closed with the hot round for a nine-stroke win in MP60 to defend his title. Mike Ward and Jeff Fielder rounded out the podium.
  • Florida’s Pam Reineke added her second Major win of the year (USWDGC) with a 12-stroke win in FP60.

  • In one of the closest battles of the week, which featured several lead changes, Geoff Hungerford picked up his first PDGA Major victory with a two-stroke win in MP65. Joe Gill finished second and Chuck Kennedy, whose 990-rated third round brought him into a tie for the lead, finished third.

Amateur Roundup

  • Melanie SanFilippo and Amy Meyer — representing both sides of the Mississippi River in the Quad Cities — have been competing against one another for a while. On top of that, they’ve been supporting one another each step of the way as well. This weekend, it was SanFilippo taking a one-stroke win in FA40 over Meyer.
  • In MA40, Texas’ Will Russell finished with 994 and 999 rated rounds for a 13-stroke win.
  • Another close battle this week as MA50 and, in the end, it was reigning MA50 World Champion Jeffrey Romig emerging with the win in the fials. Ben Champion finished second, and Norbert Sarsfield and Steve Ganz finished tied for third.

  • A Major win to go with joining the 100-win club. That was the result for Debbie Polkinghorne in FA50.
  • Scot Estep battled the elements on the final day to emerge with the MA55 title with a one-stroke win.
  • Roger Tranowski took a playoff win over George Bodiroga in MA60. They finished one stroke ahead of Warren Foy in third place.
