The Jungle at Sanford Lake Park

For a brand new course, you'll have trouble finding anything better. Sanford Parks, along with designer Dan Straley have transformed a thick, wooded landscape into a tough, challenging and beautiful disc golf course that skirts the shoreline of Sanford Lake. An easy to follow layout takes you through woods, along open fairways, up and down small hills and requires a player to know how to land the disc in a great spot for the approach or putt. There's a super mix of long and short but don't expect too many aces at this Jungle. For most players, scoring a par 54 is an achievement to be thrilled about. The cons are minimal and all are being addressed and will resolve themselves as spring and summer 2010 rolls around. Many fairways are still growing new grass that when mature will enhance the beauty and groomed appearance of the entire course. There are several holes with huge right to left turns and hidden pin placement, some of which are being revised to allow a much more true indication of a players skill level as opposed to succeeding from a lucky shot or tree hit. When coming to the Saginaw Valley area, this course is a must play of all 8 existing courses. The options for play in the Saginaw Valley are so diversified that ALL players should plan a trip and plan to stay long enough to visit the courses in Frankenmuth (long and open), Tittabawasee Park in Freeland (tight, short and technical), The Pines at St. Charles (wooded, tight, short), Chippewa Banks in Midland (very well rounded course), Blizzard Hills in Pinconning (rustic, tight, water and a bar at hole 1 & 10), CMU Course in Mt. Pleasant (open, windy, disgusting rubber tee pads) and Deerfield Park @ Mt. Pleasant ( a great new course that just opened 2009).
